The governor and legislature are working overtime to "reform" workers' compensation. They look for ways to cut costs by limiting benefits or reducing payments to medical providers. Insurance company profits are never part of the "costs" they look at curbing.
Nevada, five other states, and all Canadian provinces have self-funded public Workers' Compensation Funds. By eliminating insurance companies, they are able to offer higher benefits and lower costs.
Our legislators "cut costs" by eliminating vocational rehabilitation and forcing workers to accept lump sum payments for injuries which may last for years. Low income wage-earners and people with limited English are especially victimized by this system.
Let's create a single public Workers' Compensation Fund.
