Around the Peace & Freedom Party

Building on the positive results of the vigorous campaign for US Senate of Marsha Feinland, and the history-making campaign for President and Vice President of Leonard Peltier and Janice Jordan, the Peace and Freedom Party expanded its organizational base into several new areas.

Fresno

For the first time in decades, there is an organized P&F chapter in Fresno. Founded the day after the November election, the Fresno County Peace and Freedom Party began immediately to draw interest from disenfranchised voters and a core group of socialists and feminists who never enjoyed any meaningful recognition by the Democrats or Greens.

Led by community activist Gloria Hernandez, president of El Comite No Nos Vamos, and John Crockford, who was a Green Party candidate for State Assembly in the 2004 election, the Fresno Peace and Freedom Party hopes to become a unifying political force. They say, "We will bring real power to the powerless, we will give voice to the voiceless and we will bring justice and peace to all those who have neither."

The party has kicked off its activities with John Crockford's campaign for Clovis City Council in the March 8 election.

Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara County Peace and Freedom is just getting organized after a long period of no local organization. We co-sponsored the Just Say No to Bush march and rally on August 29. We have our literature on the table of Art Schwarz, a Green friendly to P & F, who does tabling twice a week at the farmers markets. We have gotten a list of the 238 registered P&F voters in the county. We are planning a mailing to them to verify addresses and see how many want to be active in the party.

5th Congressional District
Sacramento

With the death of Robert Matsui, a leading Democratic Party proponent of NAFTA and globalization, a special election has been called in the Fifth Congressional District. John C. Reiger, who ran as the Peace and Freedom Party candidate in the November 2004 election will once again campaign on a platform of peace, freedom and meeting human needs. With this short window of less than two months to build a campaign, he will need all the help he can get. Contact him at:
