Governor Schwarzenegger and his wealthy friends who call themselves "Citizens to Save California" are determined to take away our livelihoods and public services. They are attacking our pensions, our schools, our public services and our unions.
As The Partisan goes to press, paid circulators are collecting signatures for a number of ballot measures. Schwarzenegger has dropped the one attacking pensions after firefighters, nurses and teachers led by their unions held huge demonstrations at his fund-raising events. He expects to get the legislature to agree to reduce pensions without the measure.
The governor may call a special election in November and ask us to vote against our own best interests. He may convince the Democrats in the state legislature to go along with his program and drop the election altogether.
We need to be prepared for a fight. We may be campaigning during an election or watching over our elected representatives as they make deals in Sacramento. In this issue, we are describing some of the most important ballot proposals. Even if there is no special election, we now know what the governor and his friends really want and what we need to do in order to stop them.
See page 4 for information on ballot propositions and issues to support and oppose.
