The Reading List

What's a conservative without the right tools to arm himself for the fight against liberalism? Hopefully this list will help you understand the conservative movement better. This list is a reading list for all those concerned about stopping the current deterioration of the United States. Whatever your issue, reading some or all of these books will help you form better ideas when you write to your local newspaper or that pesky liberal politician.

If you have a book you feel should be on this list, send feedback.

The Declaration of Independence - The start of it all. Thomas Jefferson's cry to the world how power comes not from the government, but from God to the people then loaned out from the people to the government. When the government becomes tyrannical to the people, the people have the right to form a new government.

The United States Constitution - Most law schools spend one week studying the US Constitution. This document is the most precious work-of-art ever written in human history. It defines an experiment in self-government, acknowledges the most basic of human rights, and allows for change. Study the US Constitution and you'll be one up on most lawyers, judges and elitist liberals.

The Federalist Papers - A collection of the masterful arguments made by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay in favor of ratification of the US Constitution. The particular point of concern at the time of the writings was the state of New York, whose governor, George Clinton, was a strong opponent of the proposed document. It's funny how a Clinton was against the Constitution at the birth of a new nation. Some things never change.

The Conservative Manifesto by William Hennessy - A war rages in America. It is a war for the very soul of the country. With this book William Hennessy joins the battle with his ideological guns blazing. This book was published right before the Republican Revolution of 1994. Even so, it is a must-read for the concerned conservative.

The Tempting of America. The Political Seduction of the Law by Judge Robert H. Bork - After you read the US Constitution, this book will give you the insight needed to fully understand the necessity of interpreting the Constitution according to the "original understanding" of the Framers and the people for whom it was written.

The Vision of the Anointed by Dr. Thomas Sowell - If you really want to understand what makes a liberal do the things he does, think the way he thinks then this is the book to read. Dr. Sowell gets down to the nitty-gritty details of why liberals are so self-congratulatory when they come up with their stupid tactics and do-nothing policies. After you read The Vision of the Anointed you will have the best knowledge of how to defeat a liberal in any argument by simply understanding their nature. A must-read for those conservatives who write to newspaper editors.

The Murder of Vince Foster by Michael Kellett - I know, I know… It sounds like another conspiracy nut was allowed to publish a book. If you want to know the truth about the death of Vince Foster you simply MUST READ THIS BOOK! This book will be hard to find in any bookstore so contact the publishers. CLS Publishers, 7188 Cradlerock Way, Suite 162, Columbia, Maryland 21045. It costs about $12.95. Mr. Kellett not only gets into the details of the murder, but also the cover-ups and the shenanigans of the entire Clinton administration from his early days in Arkansas to the present.

Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville - Written as a report to the French aristocracy by a French aristocrat visiting America, this book is a base of understanding how American democracy works and should work. Tocqueville visited America about 160 years ago, but he captured the American way of life so well that it is still looked upon as the best book explaining why America is the best place on earth to live.

An American Life by Ronald Reagan - His autobiography. 'Nuff said.

Economics In One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt - Many political arguments are about money. Government meddling with the economy has become commonplace in American life. Read this book and have a true understanding of the basic truths of economics in a very short time. This book is written so that the common laymen can understand economic drivel spewed forth by elitist liberals for what it really is… a bunch of nonsense. You want to be able to argue economics and win? Read this book.

Witness by Whattaker Chambers - First published in 1952, Witness was at once a literary effort, a philosophical treatise, and a bestseller. Whittaker Chambers had just participated in America's trial of the century in which Chambers claimed that Alger Hiss, a full-standing member of the political establishment, was a spy for the Soviet Union. This poetic autobiography recounts the famous case, but also reveals much more. Chambers' worldview went on to help make political conservatism a national force. (Review from Amazon.com)
