Introduction to Iran and our organization

Where as Iran is an ancient and sovereign nation, we believe in the rights of the various peoples of Iran to self-determination and governance. It is also our adamant belief that maintaining the territorial, cultural, political and economic sovereignty of Iran is crucial to peace and prosperity in Iran, the Persian Gulf, and the rest of the world. With this belief and respect for international law, we are of the belief that unilateral sanctions against Iran, Iranians, and the state of Iran causes further friction and radicalization of Iranian foreign policies and have come together to campaign for the lifting of sanctions and normalization of relations between Iran and other actors on the world stage, particularly the United States.

Ever since the 1979 Revolution, an atmosphere of hostility and distrust has dominated Iran-US relations, which in our belief, betrays the prospects of peace, prosperity and democracy in Iran. Sanctions, especially unilateral sanctions, are against international laws and norms, with little experience of success. In fact, unilateral sanctions have served nothing but fueling further friction between the two countries; they hurt the bulk of population in Iran, forcing further radicalization of Iranian politics and giving right-wing elements and policies control of the foreign policies of an important actor on the international scene. While the average Iranians are hurt by US-imposed sanctions, the rich and the elite have managed to maintain their luxurious lifestyles, and radical elements continue to blame the United States for internal and external problems. Common sense dictates that peace, prosperity and democracy requires a middle class that is not prone to the excesses of the rich and the poor; unilateral and bilateral sanctions aim the bulk of Iranians: the middle, working and poor classes.

The recent election of Mr. Khatami by the majority of Iranian women and youth, is yet another clear signal of change and hope for reform in Iranian politics. If Iran is to experience a contagion and push towards the left and center of the political spectrum, there is no better time than this. Neither the Iranians, nor their elected President wish to continue the strained relations, and, the Americans have signaled their interests in revitalizing their relations with Iran too.

Hence, it is our hope and call to all Iranians at home and abroad to join us in our campaign to end all sanctions against Iran, Iranians and their state. It is also our aim to defend the interest of the Iranian people and nation in all other issues that concern Iranians-- whether living in Iran or not.
