The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) held its 30th Annual Legislative Conference at the Marriott Hotel in Jackson, MS, November 29, through December 3, 2006. The theme for this year’s conference was “Seeing Beyond Vision. Leadership. Action” The labor luncheon, held Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, was one of the conference highlights.
The NBCSL Labor Round Table unanimously selected Brenda Scott, President of MASE/CWA, Local 3570, in Jackson to receive their Local Labor Leader’s Award. They determined that she exemplifies outstanding support for labor on behalf of all working men and women.
Rep. James Evans, District 70, received the Community Leadership Award at the same luncheon. ‘Jim’, as he prefers to be called, is a former professional football player with the New York Giants and a double dues paying member of CWA (The Guilds and MASE/CWA). Rep. Evans has authored numerous labor-friendly bills in the Mississippi legislature and prizes his anti-privatization bill as trophy legislation.
