Welcome to MASE/CWA's homepage. Currently, we are the largest public workers' union in Mississippi, representing over 3,000 state workers in such state agencies as: Dept. of Human Services, Health Dept., D.O.T., Corrections, Mental Health, MS Industries for the Blind, MS Educational TV, the Port Authority, M.A.P. Headstart and the Institutions for Higher Learning, which includes the University Medical Center, as well as all state universities. As a "right to work" state, Mississippi is tough to organize; but the courage and determination of our rank and file, elected leadership, and our staff of organizers have delivered us some real successes in the twenty years of our existence.

We are the largest and only Public Sector local in Mississippi under the District 3 Communications Workers of America's Vice-President Noah Savant. See the CWA District 3 Website:

MASE/CWA also receives the support and assistance of our Public Sector Vice-President Brooks Sunkett at the National Headquarters of the Communications Workers of America located in Washington, D.C. :

Communications Workers of America.

As such, we are part of the larger family of labor, the

We also maintain links with other public workers' unions all over the world through the
Public Services International.

All Mississippi state workers are encouraged to join MASE/CWA; we're here for you! Whether a member or not, you've benefitted from our efforts over the years; but we could accomplish so much more if EVERY state worker was a union member. Our strength is in our numbers and in our level of activism. Contact us to learn more about how you can join or become more active!

NBCSL HONORS MASE/CWA PRESIDENT AND REP. JAMES EVANS WITH LEADERSHIP AWARDS

The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) held its 30th Annual Legislative Conference at the Marriott Hotel in Jackson, MS, November 29, through December 3, 2006. The theme for this year’s conference was “Seeing Beyond Vision. Leadership. Action” The labor luncheon, held Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, was one of the conference highlights.

The NBCSL Labor Round Table unanimously selected Brenda Scott, President of MASE/CWA, Local 3570, in Jackson to receive their Local Labor Leader’s Award. They determined that she exemplifies outstanding support for labor on behalf of all working men and women.

Rep. James Evans, District 70, received the Community Leadership Award at the same luncheon. ‘Jim’, as he prefers to be called, is a former professional football player with the New York Giants and a double dues paying member of CWA (The Guilds and MASE/CWA). Rep. Evans has authored numerous labor-friendly bills in the Mississippi legislature and prizes his anti-privatization bill as trophy legislation. Jim has served in the state legislature since 1992 and is a national AFL-CIO field representative.
