(written by Aqlam Jafri) Malaysian's Deaf lacks needful facilities like fax machines and Internet such as e-mail thru online service which deaf people in other countries like Japan and USA communicating with one another and with others. As the machine is beyond the local deaf community's means they make do with "middlemen" conversation. Some of Malaysian Deaf have been using fax machice through their office, their home or own by themselves.
TTY is a special text-telephone for the deaf person. It can easily communicate with one another and with others. In USA, telephone service companies (AT&T, Sprint and so on) have to establish relay service themselves for serving the public. It easily help deaf and public communicate between them thru that relay service. But today In Malaysia, deaf people have to ask other people to assist them for using the telephone through public telephone. because of the price of TTY are too expensive for them and no relay service available.
I think it would be an advantage for deaf people to be a deaf teacher because he could help deaf students in their studies. In this respect, deaf teacher can be a role model so that deaf students will be successfull in the future as a normal person. So far we have 6 deaf working teachers in Deaf School.
I would like to suggest that Maktab Perguruan Ilmu Khas (MPIK) to have deaf person to conduct sign language class to the trainerr teachers. This will help to have better improvement in sign skill of the trainee.
I would like to advice to some parents who have a deaf child to take responsible for sharing and teaching their child by using sign language at home. The parents always depend to teachers for teaching their child in school.
