Dear Colleague
HEAD OFFICE OFFICERS - CHANGE OF RESPONSIBILITIES The Council has now concluded their review of Head Office officerial responsibilities following the decision of Les Baker and Beverley McGowan to take early retirement under the Voluntary Redundancy Scheme. In doing this we have had to look at how best to utilise the reduced resources available to the union to service the new internal Council structures set out on page 22 of the July/August 1996 Review and to maintain services to members and branches so far as possible. The Council have concluded that on the negotiating side (Committee A responsibilities) corporate negotiations will be handled by the Deputy General Secretary (N), Adrian Askew, and Assistant Secretary, Aveen McHugh, who will together cover the responsibilities previously carried out by Adrian, Les and Beverley. The Council have concluded that, against the background of the need to make substantial staffing economies, that they will not fill the Research Officer post. Research issues should now be referred to Stephanie Marston, the Senior Researcher. The Deputy General Secretary, Ben Marshall, will continue with his existing responsibilities - including line management responsibility for the Field Officers. Assistant Secretary, Leslie Manasseh, is taking over responsibility for Committee B, whilst retaining his existing role as National Organiser. These changes should enable Head Office to operate with five full-time officers and the reduced number of support staff for the future, on the basis summarised below: |

The duties of the Field Officers remain as set out in Admin Circular 43/96 (attached) with the exception of one minor change. Responsibility for Fujitsu Telecoms Europe has been transferred from the Birmingham Field Office to the Assistant National Organiser, David Lyons. Field Offices remain the first point of contact for branches, and the union's lead negotiators in BT Divisions. Yours sincerely S PETCH General Secretary |
