To promote public awareness of all
legal instruments for minority and human rights protection as subscribed
to by the United Nations and international law, particularly as it relates
to the situation of formerly enslaved minorities in the Americas and elsewhere.
To advocate ratification of and
assist in monitoring adherence to all international human rights instruments,
particularly those concerning minority rights.
To promote the drafting of international
human rights instruments, particularly as it might relate to formerly enslaved
minorities.
To seek cooperation with governments
in the implementation of the Covenants and other human rights instruments,
and to call government and UN attention to the particular needs of formerly
enslaved minorities.
To provide a vehicle whereby serious
minority complaints can reach the UN and serve as an early warning for
conflict resolution.
METHODS:
All available means of publicity,
such as publications (books and newsletter), press releases, speaking and
teaching engagements, radio and TV interviews, conferences, facilitation
of UN Briefings, and by mutual aid, association with and representation
to organizations and human rights groups worldwide.
Submission of Briefs and Petitions
to the United Nations, to the Inter American Commission on Human Rights,
the Organization of American States, and other appropriate international
human rights organs.
Cooperation with all UN organs and
instruments, e.g. the Sub-Commission, Commission on Human Rights, the Human
Rights Committee, UN Working Groups, etc.
Encouraging governmental investigation
and evaluation of human rights implementation efforts, particularly as
it relates to reporting processes, responses to Petitions, UN inquiries,
etc.
Consultation services to individuals
and organizations.
