Ontario has given Quebec until April 1, 1999 to open up restrictive
labour access
rules. Check out the Ontario Ministry of Labour link to find out the
kind of hoops construction workers and other tradesmen must jump through
to be able to work in Quebec. On the flip side of the coin, Quebec construction
work crews are ever present on the Ontario side of the Ottawa river. On
top of that, they routinely buy their supplies in Ontario and have them
delivered across the river to avoid Ontario sales tax, then promptly transport
them back to the Ontario construction site.
Fair practices? I think not.
