Federation of Indigenous Peoples of the Philippines (KAMP) |
The Kalipunan ng Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas or KAMP is the national federation of indigenous
peoples organizations in the Philippines.
Established in 1987, KAMP traces its beginning to
the Consultative Assembly of Minority Peoples of
the Philippines (CAMPP) back in September 1983. The
assembly served as a regular venue where tribal
leaders belonging to the 6.5 million
indigenous population met to share and discuss the
problems and life struggles of indigenous peoples.
The assembly was instrumental in advancing the
demands and aspirations of indigenous peoples
through the projection of their issues in the
national and international fronts. The period also
marked the formation of local, provincial and region-
wide organizations of indigenous peoples.
Seeing the need to galvanize their efforts into a
national movement that will assert indigenous
peoples rights, the assembly was transformed into a
federation in December 1987. Aware of that their
conditions are no different from the rest of the
Filipino people, they participate in the broader
struggle of various sectors in the national movement
for genuine freedom and democracy. It has as
members indigenous organizations from the
following ethnolinguistic groups:
