J. David Ingersoll, Esq. Biography
Greetings! I'm J. David Ingersoll, and I've been a licensed
attorney in Ohio and the US District Court for Northern Ohio, Eastern District for 14
years. I attended Colgate University and studied abroad at the University of London during
my undergraduate work, and studied law at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. For the
past 14 years, I've been a solo practioner practicing law in Northeast Ohio, including
Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. During that time I've handled hundreds of cases in Common
Pleas, Appellate, Municipal, and Federal Courts. I've represented clients from New York to
California who have had legal matters in Ohio.
My initial concentration was with criminal law, when I interned
with an established criminal law attorney while still in law school. From there, I joined
a small firm and got my feet wet in general practice, including personal injury matters,
domestic relations law, probate law, and corporate representation. One year later, I
opened up my own office.
Geographically, I concentrate in, and will travel to Cuyahoga,
Lake, Geauga, Summit, and Lorain counties in northeast Ohio. However, in recent years I
have also started accepting cases in Port Clinton and Lancaster. However, if I find a case
is especially interesting, I'll travel just about anywhere.
Most of my case load involves matters in litigation, which means
that when people get sued, or need to sue someone, I'm the person who gets called. While
some attorneys believe in a large volume caseload, my philosophy is to limit my caseload,
to work those cases thoroughly, and to do an excellent job on a fewer number of cases
instead of doing a mediocre job on a lot of cases.
Much of my practice nowadays is devoted to representing small
businesses who find themselves in litigation situations, although I still take on a
limited number of criminal matters and a limited number of personal injury matters each
year. I am corporate counsel to two environmental firms, and have been involved in that
area for about seven years. I've served as corporate counsel to car rental agencies, real
estate firms, roofing and contracting companies, sound and production companies, and the
music and computer industries.
Additionally, I am now accepting cases in the areas of probate,
domestic, and bankruptcy. If you need assistance with a will, divorce proceedings, or
grave financial problems, please feel free to contact me for a free consultation on
your legal options.
I devote some of my practice to assisting other attorneys with
legal research and writing, an area I enjoy. I also have had success in representing
clients in divorce and probate matters, and have expanded my concentration in these areas
in recent years.
I presently sit on the Board of Directors for one Environmental
company.
Prior to becoming an attorney, I've held positions as an aide to
the Mayor of Cleveland, office manager of a car rental firm, night auditor at a hotel,
stablehand, assistant manager of a restaraunt, musician, and assistant manager of a toy
store. I believe that my experience in the "real world" helps me better
understand and relate to my client's concerns in their daily lives.
Additionally, I've been active in the political scene in Ohio.
I've worked as a strategist for judicial, mayoral and statehouse races. The picture below
was taken at a one of the political rallies I helped organize for George Voinovich when he
was seeking re-election as Mayor of Cleveland.
