I have always had an interest in American politics.
Originally, I think my interest was sparked by the turmoil of the sixties (yes, like many,
I am a product of that period). The Nixon impeachment hearings also fascinated
me. I was watching a historical drama unfold. Little did I know that I would
get another opportunity 20 plus years later.
In any event, the proliferation of online services, the growth of
the computer and software industries and the ability to provide information and express
personnal interests over the internet caught my attention as it did many others. I
have to admit that the temptation was too great to resist. I can now pursue my
interest in the American political system and perhaps provide others with a convenient
spot to gather information and jump off into other worlds of interest.
While visiting this site, you can access the home pages of members
of the House of Representatives and the Senate. If you are so inclined, you may also
drop your representative or senator a line (assuming there is an e-mail address for him or
her).
You might also drop into the section pertaining to political
(editorial) cartoons. Sample works from several artists are presented. You may
also follow a link to the home page of each. The quotation pages contain thoughts on
government and politics verbalized by many personages you will recognize. Some are
very thought provoking while others are comical.
The Reference Room contains hundreds of links on several subjects.
Numerous links are provided to sites about various presidents. Speaking of
presidents, you can also read the innaugural addresses of each elected president and take
a look at presidential election results. Yest another section will provide you with
the text of a number of historical documents. You can read the U.S. Constitution,
the Magna Carta, the Declarations of War against germany and Japan, the Mayflower Compact,
the Truman Doctrine and many others.
Other sections in the Reference Room pertain to women in American
politics, links to various political parties in America (yes, there is more to political
life than the Democrats and Republicans), Federalism, political associations and firms who
lobby for or against pretty much anything and everything and more.
You may participate in a very unscientific survey as well.
Obviously, you will not find everything you want here, but it may serve as a jumping off point. At the moment, all site segments, excluding the Reference Room, are active. Check back often, leave your comments and suggestions and watch as the
site grows.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SITE IS
RELOCATING. Hope to see you there.
