Group Matches.

WESTRIA - DAVENPORT 1-4

(0-1 0-1 1-2)

Played in: Västhammar

Spectators: 7540

Penalties: Davenport 6x2min, Westria 5x2min 1x5min

Shots on goal: 18-20

GOALS Davenport: Flory, Brown, Laraque, Caron Westria: Egon Egerszeg

Referee: Olav Slikefjell (Caboteniasa)

The two giants met already in the first round in a very even and intense game. Both teams gave everything in this very psychologically important opening match. Both sides really wanted to win which did not only result in good hockey, but also quite a lot of work for the referee as both teams played very physical hockey. The first goal came after 12:10 as Westria had a player in the penalty box. The next goal were not to come until towards the end of the second period just after that Westria had managed to succesfully defend themselves in a 3 minutes long box play as defender Dieter Puckmann recieved a game penalty after a personal fight with Brown in Davenport. The later got a two minute penalty. The game penalty was considered light. In the third period Westria started best and was finally able to net the puck behind Norris in the Davenport goal after 6:06. Westria had several good chances, but instead Laraque scored in a counterattack. The 1-4 final result was set by Caron as Westrian coach Krumpnigg had chosen to replace the goalie by an extra field player.

DAVENPORT - SANX 10-5

(4-2, 3-2, 3-1)

Played in: San Lenandia

Spectators: 3480

Penalties: Davenport 6x2, Sanx 7x2

Shots on goal: 36-27

GOALS Davenport: 3. Flory, 2. Brown, 1. Valois, Cambert, Bennett, Dean, Laraque Sanx: N. Vinthzig, Zurnig, D. Vinthzig, Tsceppernig, Haxxen

Referee: Steindór Guttormsson (Islandia)

Davenport won again in a very eventful match against Sanx. Both sides played very offensive and entertaining hockey and the only ones not satisfied were perhaps the coaches and the goalies. Sanx used both as Bagel chosed to leave his post after the 7-4 goal and allow for Fummelig to come in and try to do the job better.

BROLECIA - DAVENPORT 2-5

(1-2, 1-1, 0-2)

Played in: San Lenandia

Spectators: 5465

Penalties: Brolecia 4x2 Davenport 4x2

Shots on goal: 15-39

GOALS Brolecia: Ellis, Petersonn Davenport: Flory, Caron, O'Bannon, Rowsdower, Bennett

Referee: Þorkell Jóhannesson, Islandia

As Brolecia took on Davenport, Davenport was of course the big favourites and they played very well during the entire match. However Morgensonn in the Brolecian goal played a great game and was the one who saved Brolecia from being totally crushed by the weight of the Davenportian attacks.

DAVENPORT - BOWDANI 6-4

(1-2, 2-1, 3-1)

Played in: Västhammar

Spectators: 5410

Penalties: Davenport 4x2, Bowdani 3x2

Shots on goal: 28-25

GOALS Davenport: 2. Caron 1. Shea, Flory, Rutsey, Engemoen Bowdani: N/A

Referee: Rumko Dukkil, Namuria

Bowdani makes a decent exit as losing to undefeated Davenport with 6-4, but disappointment is of course still great in the Bowdanian team as they havn't managed to take a single point! Bowdani started best best and lead after the first period, but then the Davenportian stars pulled their self together and some occational world class play was enough to win.

Quarter Final.

DAVENPORT - SEEPAEYGUEY 4-2

(2-1, 2-2, 1-0)

Played in: Uppköping

Spectators: 4270

Penalties: Davenport 6x2 Seepaeyguey 7x2

Shots on goal: 25-18

GOALS Davenport: Cambert, Dean, Flory, Laraque Seepaeyguey: C. Chanyay, Kinyee

Referee: Petter Kling, Caboteniasa

Davenport is ready for the semifinals after a somewhat narrow, but at the same time pretty clear win over Seepaeyguey. The Davenportan 1st line showed real world class and will be something for their opponents to look out for. The rest of the team played steadily, but had hard to score, as the Seepaeygueyan defence was very stable. The 4-2 goal was made in empty goal after that the Seepaeygueyans had chosen to try to even by using a sixth field player.

Semi Final.

DAVENPORT - CABOTENIASA 5-4

(2-1, 1-2, 2-1)

Played in: Narhammer

Spectators: 8512 (full house)

Penalties: Davenport 5x2, Caboteniasa 4x2

Shots on goal: 26-24

GOALS Davenport: Flory, Laraque, Boutet, Valois, Pyle Caboteniasa: R. Ormtvedt, D. Hamrin, E. Andersson, Ohlsson

Referee: Þorkell Jóhannesson, Islandia

Activities in large parts of Caboteniasa stopped today as people sat around TVs or radios to follow the semi final between Davenport and Caboteniasa. In front of eight and a half thousand extatic Caboteniasan fans, including His Royal Majesty, the match was played during a seemingly never-ending defeaming noise of cheering from the crowd. In what was probably the best played game of the century Intensive hockey, brilliant passes, hard shots and not least, very impressive saves of Norris and Nordström, the two goalies. Caboteniasa was first to score as the first line with Ragnar Ormtvedt and the Hamrin-brothers by some astonishing passes and fast scating caused havoc in the Davenportian defence and allowed Ormtvedt to score the first goal. Davenport was fast to reply however and the two teams were to closely follow eachother in the goal record. With only two minutes left to play the score was 4-4 and most were alsready looking forward to the extra time. Then a long shot by Davenportian defender Pyle managed to get passed Nordström and suddenly the entire crowd went silent except a very small amount of Davenport fans present. Caboteniasa tried, but couldn't equalise. Davenport advances to the final with better confidence than ever. The question for Caboteniasa now is, is it possible to get back in shape for the bronze match after this defeat?

Final.

DAVENPORT - WESTRIA 6-5

(3-2, 2-2, 1-1)

Played in: Uppköping

Spectators: 11 314 (full house)

Penalties: Davenport 4x2 1x5 + match penalty, Westria 4x2

Shots on goal: 27-25

GOALS Davenport: 2. Caron 1. O'Bannon, Shea, Cambert, Brown Westria: Killnig, Egerszeg, Puckmann, Ten Dekk

Referee: Olav Slikefjell, Caboteniasa

The last meeting between Westria and Davenport resulted in a Davenport win by 4-1 and the question today before the final was whether the Davenportians should be able to beat Westria again. Already after 2 minutes of play Caron showed why he has won the scoring league of the DIHL for the last three seasons. In an impressive solo performance Pfirti in the Westrian goal was completely fouled and and Caron could score in the empty goal. The 11 000 following the match in the arena as well as the millions following it through TV and radio could then enjoy a most exciting match as Westria tried to equalise the Davenportian lead which they kept through most of the match. In the beginning of the third period something less positive happened as a Westrian defender was cross-checked from behind in front of the Westrian goal leading to a big fight after which Tommy Vinacci, the Davenportian defender was shown off the ice and Westria's Puckman got a 2+2 minute penalty. The two teams scored one goal each in the last period and despite Westrian play 6 against 4 during the last minute, Westria didn't manage to equalise and so Davenport takes the World Championships gold!
