PORT DOVER -- On the beach, two hot, hazy days beneath a storied lighthouse,
soothed by a perpetual summer breeze.
The sound of waves rolling in on splashing children.
People pretending not to notice a topless woman wearing only a thong as she lay
on the sand, while parents directed little children on a different path.
In Powell Park a few blocks away, hundreds of people milling around arts and
crafts booths while a jazz ensemble puts together stands and instruments as they
prepare to spice up the summer breeze.
And everywhere one walks, the aroma of fried perch and pickerel permeates the
air.
To the average reveler, that scene hasn't changed much in the 26 years that Port
Dover boosters have turned the picturesque town's streets into a veritable carnival
they call Summerfest.
