RADICAL WOMEN LEAD THE FIGHT FOR WOMEN'S RIGHTS
I would just to comment on the issue of the right of women to bare their breasts in public.
I am confused as to why women especially find it so difficult to accept this newly granted right. Thank goodness there are radical women out there fighting for women's rights because without them women might still be bare foot and pregnant, wouldn't have the right to vote, work, bare their ankles, attend drinking establishments, decide on how many children they want, or drive a vehicle.
If fear motivates this negative response, then please, stop and look around. Women did not go crazy, tearing off their tops and marching around the streets just because they could. I have had the opportunity to attend several public functions and have yet to see a bare breasted woman. It is obvious the vast majority of women have not been impacted greatly by this new right and continue to act as responsible now as they have in the past.
If women fear their male partner might get a glimpse of such an awesome sight as a bare breasted woman, then perhaps they need to take a closer look at why this is an issue in the relationship.
The comment I hear the most from women is "I don't want my kids to see that." Remember, children learn what they are taught. If we teach our children to respect the rights and opinions of others, hopefully they won't become judgmental.
I will find it more offensive to have city taxpayers' money wasted on implementing bylaws to override the laws currently in place at the provincial level. There are far more pressing issues in this city that need addressing. Do we really need to bog down our council meetings with this issue when the right to bare breasts has already been passed.
