Councillor eyes breast ban
Lastman calls motion 'out and out stupid'

Bare breasts are getting out of hand and will soon lead to sex in the streets, a North York councillor says.
Ward 1 Councillor George Mammoliti proposed a bylaw yesterday to restrict toplessness in the city.
"We'll very likely see people in bus stops and on the streets fondling and kissing topless women's breasts," Mammoliti said. "We need to be wary of a potential craze ... and we need to stop it now. I know the women's groups won't be very happy with me."
Mayor Mel Lastman said the only boob causing problems in North York is Mammoliti.
"We haven't had one problem in North York. Mammoliti will probably create the problem. It's the law of the land and there's nothing we can do about it. But there's nobody doing it. So why the hell is he making an issue of it?" Lastman asked.
Lastman said Mammoliti's motion is unenforceable and "stupid.
"If a woman wants to go topless just ignore her, let it go. And to say we're going to have sex on the streets is just out and out stupid."
A rally has been organized for today at Nathan Phillips Square by a Mississauga woman who wants to redress the law.
Pam Ayers and activists from her group, Keeping Tops On, will gather at City Hall at noon.
