I FOUND Christie Blatchford's column "It's time to go on the offensive"
offensive indeed. I don't always agree with her, but I've usually found her to be
a sensible, down to earth writer. But this column falls short of sensibleness or
sensitivity. She asserts that she is not offended by nudity in the Gay Pride Parade
and relates an incident in which a young, exuberant participant flipped his loin
cloth to reveal what he had beneath. Now Christie, please explain something here.
Was it okay to flout the law because he is young and comely? If he was old and homely,
would that then be offensive? Or is it okay to break the law because he was part
of a large group? Common sense would say law only works when it is applied consistently.
