What is HAIPA? HAIPA is the chosen acronym to represent the Haitian-American Intellectual Property Association. Succinctly, HAIPA is an informational vehicle for the Haitian-American community, at least, in the intellectual property arena. It is a non-profit organization, of which the primary concern is to inform the Haitian community about patent rights, copyright, trade secrets, trademarks, and trade-names.
What are our goals? The association has envisioned some short-term and long-term goals. Our short-term goals are: to introduce the topic of intellectual property to our members and the community at large; to promote science and the useful art amongst our people; to disseminate information regarding intellectual property; to sponsor children inventor fairs; encourage individuals of Haitian descents to study intellectual property (in school or Personal). The Association Long-term goals are: to help the Haitian government to establish or reform "the intellectual property system" of Haiti; to sponsor students who are interested in studying intellectual property law; to emerge as a recognized player in the intellectual property playing field.
This association has been attracting primarily people with backgrounds in Engineering and Law. It is, however, open to people of all types of disciplines, experiences, and educational backgrounds. It welcomes people like yourself who seem to have a strong interest in the subject; people who know about intellectual property; or people who just want to learn more about the subject. It is not necessary that a person be of Haitian origin to be part of the association. The association is open to all who want to help it achieve its goals.
Where are we located? The association is now located in Arlington, Virginia. We can be reached via e-mail (seemain page) and our mailing address is:
