Safety captain resigns
AT LEAST ONE SAFETY CAPTAIN in the maintenance department has resigned and at least three more are threatening to quit as well.
"The safety program is going nowhere," said one ex safety captain. "It's like a waste of time because the maintenance manager drags his feet, never follows up on our suggestions and won't implement the safety training we decided that we needed."
Fall arrest training and WHIMIS training are two of the programs that were discovered to be lacking.
"All I can say is the only way we will get trained in fall arrest for example is to refuse to do any job that requires fall arrest equipment until we have been trained to use the equipment properly. Maybe that will clear Borycki's 'lack of present moment thinking!'"
note: oddly enough, shortly after this was published in the newsletter a paper appeared on the noticeboard indicating fall arrest training would be provided and for whom and when. This item has been on safety minutes for months but went nowhere. It gets into the newsletter and gets action... Coincidence? You decide.
