West Piedmont Disability
Services Board

Welcome to the West Piedmont Disability Services Board (WPDSB) home page. We operate in Virginia serving the Counties of Franklin, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania as well as the cities of Danville and Martinsville. The WPDSB offers these communities the opportunity to provide input about the planning needs and local concerns for persons with physical and sensory disabilities. We also provide the following:

Meetings are held quarterly beginning in September, alternating locations within each area served by the West Piedmont Disability Service Board.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2008 from 11:00 am until approximately 12:30 pm at the Pittsylvania County Human Services Building in Chatham, Va. Additionally, the meeting will take place in the training room on the south side of the attached building and lunch will not be included. The public is encouraged to attend. If you need directions, please contact Sidney Ratliff, WPDSB Coordinator, at 1-800-232-7997 or 540-656-0333 (TDD/Voice).

The West Piedmont DSB participated in Piedmont Mall's Community Fair 2000 on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. This event was held to showcase area non-profit agencies and organization, thus promoting public awareness. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth, said hello and found out more about us!

Every three years, each DSB throughout Virginia compiles a Needs Assessment for their area. This report helps the boards to see where problems or needs are in their jurisdiction and gives them insight into how to amend the problem(s). We are currently compiling information to complete our 2006 Needs Assessment Report. Surveys to assist us in this process have been collected and are currently being assessed for the report.
In the meantime, if you would like to find out more about our 1997 Needs Assessment Report, click HERE. The Needs Assessment Report for 1999 will be available online shortly. Thanks for your patience.

Each year incentive grant funds are awarded as stimulus funding to promote investment in meeting the needs of individuals with physical and/or sensory disabilities who reside in communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. They may be one time or multi-year grants and are allocated locally either through the Disability Service Boards or through competitive grant review. For more specific explanation and guidelines, check out our RSIF Guideline Page.
All grant applications must be submitted to the Disability Service Board for review no later than April 1, 2006. This will give the Board time to review and amendments to be made if necessary before applications are turned into the Department of Rehabilitative Services for final recommendation. The specific timeline is shown here.

Following issuance of the initial grant awards, the Disability Services Council shall competitively award any uncommitted resources remaining in the State RSIF. The following page explains the Grant Match formula for the competitive grant funding.

With deadlines quickly approaching, those interested in applying for RSIF Grant funds may print out the entire application from the website, fill it out completely and return to: Sidney Ratliff, WPDSB Coordinator, P.O. Box 5311, Martinsville, VA 24115. You may also download the complete Grant Application ("right click, save target as") if you have trouble printing the document from the website.
