Meetings of theGrand Council of United Emerald Societies are held the first Wednesday of every month at the Castle Harbor Bar, Haviland Avenue in the Bronx.
The PES was well represented at the Grand Council Dinner Dance held in November, 1997 at Antun's in Queens . Seventeen PES members and their spouses attended the gala and a good time was had by all. Reports indicate that PES members were some of the very last revelers to call it a night.
The Grand Council, at the urging of Barney Ferguson - retired NYPD Detective, and GCUES President Brian Sharkey - NYC Corrections, approved a generous contribution to the PES to help sponsor our Annual Christmas Party and Awards Presentation held last December.
PES Trustee and past-president Hugh O'Rourke was also happy to forward to the PES treasury a nice check from Rosemary Dove, Chairwoman of the GCUES Board of Trustees and member of the NYC Courts Emerald Society. Rosemary is the sister of the late Neil Boyle - a charter member of the PES.
As a result, the PES has conferred a special status on Ms. Dove and made her a member in good standing through the year 2002.
Over one hundred twenty-five people turned out for the PES Annual Christmas Party and Awards presentation held at the Days Inn Hotel in Glenmont New York last December.
Party goers included several luminaries from the State and local Government scene who turned out to see PES Honorees Ed Powers - Emerald of the Year, Mike Hayden - Man of the Year and Maureen Casey - Woman of the Year receive their awards.
The PES was also grateful to members Bob Wright, Central Office who played the bagpipes and to PES' Official DJ -Tony Mattrazzo of Central Office for providing the music that kept members dancing throughout the night. Tony is a professional DJ and can be hired out to provide music for all occasions.
June 8, 1998. Keep that date free for the Parole Officers Association Inaugural Golf Tournament to help raise funds for the Parole Officers Memorial. The tournament is being coordinated for the POA by PES Upstate Vice-President Bob Thayer and PES members Steve Whitbeck, Rich Bitel and Winston Wachtel of the Albany area. The outing will be held at the Evergreen Golf and Country Club in East Greenbush - only minutes from Albany on Interstate 90. Bob indicates that details and a flyer will be available in the coming months.
PES members are encouraged to participate in support of the memorial.
Promotions were the order of the day for long-time PES members Bob Dennison and Mary Osborne recently. Bob has been elevated to the position of Deputy Regional Director in Region II in charge of Brooklyn and Staten Island and Mary has been appointed to the position of Parole Services Program Specialist and will be working out of central office. Best wishes for success go out to both Mary and Bob.
