Farewell To Ed Powers
Long standing PES member Ed Powers, our 1997 Emerald of the Year, retired after 30-plus years of service to the Division. Past PES President John Rogan organized a going away party for Ed that was sponsored by the PES and held at Rory Dolans on McLean Avenue in the Bronx on October 10th.
Ed was the proud recipient of a new set of golf clubs and also a few good shots from his closest friends at the Division.
Hugh O'Rourke, another past president and PES Trustee, was master of ceremonies for the event which was attended by over 100 well-wishers.
Rogan Travels To Ireland
PES Trustee John Rogan and PES member Karen Sullivan recently returned from a trip to the old country. John reports that all was well on the trip but regrets to report that it didn't appear that his state-issued beeper was working over there.
Ken Butterfield Retirement Party Slated For Dec. 17
Ken Butterfield, Bureau Chief of the Poughkeepsie Area Office and a stalwart PES member is scheduled to retire after many years of service to the State of New York. Ken will be remembered as one of the true gentlemen of the Division. A Retirement party is scheduled for Ken on December 17th for the Poughkeepsie area. We wish Ken well in his retirement.
Grand Council News
PES delegates to the Grand Council of United Emerald Societies (GCUES) include Bill Graham and John Rogan of Peekskill, Tom Herzog and Mike Hayden of Central Office and Rich Heffernan of the Bronx.
The Grand Council meets the first Wednesday every month at the Castle Harbor Bar and Grill at Haviland Avenue in the Bronx.
The 1998 Grand Council Christmas party is scheduled for Wednesday December 2nd at the Castle Harbor. All PES members are invited to attend. Cost is $25 and includes food and drinks throughout the night. GCUES reports that there will be no dinner dance this season.

Powers Named To Awards Committee
Jay Powers of Queens I, has been named by PES President Herzog as the Emerald Society's delegate to the Parole Awards Committee. Powers succeeds Mike Hayden.
