This number has been thrown around for the US 63 expressway from
Jonesboro to Interstate 55 at Turrell. The I-555 designation was
rejected in 1999 by AASHTO. US 63 from I-55 to Marked Tree is ISHTA
High Priority Corridor 39, and is a freeway from Marked Tree to Jonesboro.
US 63 has numerous at-grade intersections south of Marked Tree. My
speculation is that AASHTO denied AHTD to designate US 63 as I-555 because
of these at-grade intersections, and when it is upgraded to a freeway south
of Marked Tree, AASHTO will approve the I-555 designation. This would
be the only signed 3di with repeating numbers (I-444 in Tulsa, OK is unsigned).
