Interstate 57 currently runs from Chicago,
Illinois, to Miner, Missouri. According to several sources, the US 67 freeway
currently complete between Newport and North Little Rock will carry this
designation in the future. There are also rumors that I-30 would be extended
to St. Louis, but this would violate the numbering scheme too much. I-57
would run from Miner to Poplar Bluff, Missouri along US 60 and from Poplar
Bluff to North Little Rock along US 67 (and US 64 and US 167). The portion
from Poplar Bluff to Newport should be routed through Jonesboro, but I
doubt this will be the case. There was talk a few years ago of routing
this freeway through Jonesboro, but the parties settled on putting the
new highway along the current US 67 corridor and upgrading Arkansas 226
from north of Tuckerman to Jonesboro to a four-lane highway. The question
is, when the I-57 moniker is added to this highway, will Arkansas 367 revert
to US 67?
