Association of Indian Progressive Study Groups
28th April 2002

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the AIPSG, it is my honour to greet the participants in this rally against Israeli terrorism organised jointly by the Ghadar Heritage Foundation, East Indian Workers Association and Indo-Canadian Workers Association in Toronto, Canada.  I would also like to greet the courageous sons and daughters of the Palestinian people who are braving the US-supplied bullets, tanks and gunships of the Israeli occupiers of their homeland to defend their dignity and national sovereignty.

The armed occupation and military attacks launched by Israel against the Palestinian people in the past few months could not have taken place without the complicity of the US and is to be regarded as an integral part of their plans to reorder the Middle East and the world in general under the garb of its self-serving “war on terrorism”.  From our experience in India, we know very well that state terrorism is the fountainhead of all forms of terrorism, including individual acts of terrorism.  The US state is second to none in aiding, abetting and practicing state terrorism on a global scale, the aim of which is to defend the system of robbery and exploitation of the peoples by a minority of monopolies and multinationals. It is clear that the people of the world are the real victims of terrorism and are bound to rise up to end this menace.  The US state has openly declared the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World trade Center as an opportunity to present its own terrorism in the colours of anti-terrorism and to use it to extinguish the most revolutionary elements in the struggles of the peoples.

The numerous “anti-terrorist” legislations around the world, including those in India and Canada, are examples of this crusade. The Afghan adventure of the US armed forces is another such example and the armed onslaught of the Israeli army on Palestinians is yet another such example. A broad and open war against the insurgent people all over the world has been launched and is raging not only in the streets of Ramallah and Jenin but also in the jungles of Philippines and Colombia, and in the mountains and gorges of Kashmir and Georgia. The battles being fought by the men and women of the West Bank and Gaza against the Israeli tanks and rockets are the resistance battles of this war of humanity against the big powers led by the US. We are duty-bound to close ranks on the side of the people’s forces in whose forefront stand the Palestinian people, and step up our own struggles against those who support the Israeli occupiers here in Canada, the US, the European capitals, India and so on.

On the occasion of this rally, the AIPSG would like to inform the participants that the Indian government’s long-standing pretensions in support of the Palestinian people today stands fully exposed in its attitude against Israeli terror.  In the context of the US-led “war on terrorism,” the Indian state has itself launched its own terror campaign inside India against “cross-border terrorism”. It has closely allied itself with the Israel of Ariel Sharon and the US of George Bush at the same time as it has sought to criminalise all national struggles and socio-economic struggles inside India as “terrorist” under its new Prevention of terrorism Act (POTA). The Israelis are not only training and arming the Indian forces to fight the workers, peasants, women and youth of India but also have emerged as a model for “anti-insurgency operations” in assistance to the Indian rulers who have not been able to eliminate insurgency from Indian soil for the last century and a half. Certainly, it is no surprise that these people now find themselves in no position to condemn the Israeli terrorism today, and have limited themselves to praising the American “peace initiatives”.

These American peace initiatives, and the support it has gained from powers across the world from Canada and India to Europe have only one aim – to convince the people that they need not themselves become political and take their own initiatives to condemn the Israeli terrorism. This rally is a living testimony to the rejection of this attempt to depoliticize the people and the AIPSG applauds the organisers of this rally for taking a political stand. The AIPSG is honoured to add its own political voice to the voices of all those who want a different world, a world where people and not the guns establish the peace. The AIPSG hails this rally.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,
