Pro Mixed Martial Arts Movement in North America (PMNA)

Mixed Martial Arts Fact Sheet

Question: What is Mixed Martial Arts(MMA)?

Answer: MMA is a term used to identify the combining of different Martial-Arts(MA) together for self defense. This combination of ground and stand up fighting offers the best protection from attackers and is currently being practiced worldwide because of its emphasis on realism.

Question: When did MMA events start?

Answer: During the ancient Olympic Games in Greece the sport of Pankration was formed. This event was a combination of boxing and wrestling where kicking was also allowed. The only rules in this event were no biting and no gouging an opponent's eyes, nose, or mouth.

Question: MMA sounds very brutal, is it really as brutal as it sounds?

Answer: Although MMA competitions may sound very brutal they are actually much safer than current boxing bouts. The Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC) event, which was started in 1993 in the United States or America (USA), has had no major injuries since it started.

Question: How come I've never heard of the UFC before?

Answer: Mostly because of the current censorship that is being practiced in North America by cable companies(TCI/TW), Pay Per View companies (Viewers Choice), government officials(Senator McCain) and athletic commissions. Also the UFC has only been televised on PPV thus far and unless you're an avid PPV watcher you might not have seen the ads.

Question: Is the UFC real? I mean is it a side show like Professional Wrestling(WWF/WCW)?

Answer: The UFC and other MMA events are real. They don't have a predetermined ending to a match and they actually strike one another unlike the Professional Wrestling shows.

Question: How can I help the UFC and other MMA events defeat the censorship dilemma?

  1. By discussing what you've learned, by reading this, with others. The big misconceptions about MMA have been answered on this paper and with an educated public the censorship practices of the above will, sooner or later, be stopped.
  2. You may join the PMNA or any other group that supports freedom of choice to help put an end to the meaningless censorship that is currently plaguing North America.
  3. Call your cable/satellite provider and ask them if they're going to be carrying the UFC and like MMA events on PPV in the future. If they aren't going to be showing the UFC and like MMA events then inform them that you will not tolerate censorship and might decide to change to a non-censorship cable/satellite provider.
