The 1949 borders of the new State of Israel

This map shows the borders of the new State of Israel after the War of Independance. The UN didn't inforce their partition resolution and no international force was stationed in Jerusalem and Bethlehem, so the war determined the borders, not the UN. Israel ended up with more land than the UN plan offered, including West Jerusalem. And no independant Arab state was set up in the remainder of the land. Instead Jordan occupied the Westbank, and Egypt occupied Gaza.
