The Hasmoneans were the Jews in Palestine who revolted against the Hellenistic Seleucid Empire after King Antiochus IV outlawed Jewish religion. The Hasmoneans (aka the Maccabees) restored Jewish control over Palestine for a century or so until the Romans conquered it.
