The Media and Our Views on Sexuality
The media plays an enormous part in its partakers. Undoubtedly causing mass confusion and misguidance, this part of human life throws itself into society spreading false depictions when it can, swaying our young to do as it proclaims, and not as they should. The media is prevalent in the exaggerating the most simple aspects of life and creating stalwart believers in a corrupt moral ideology. This innovation has brought forth the most destructive influence over people of all ages. The future will be formed around this medium, and it will dominate our minds with unnatural urges and reflections. Our views on sexuality have been changed forever. I am not placing the blame on technology. I only wish that the producers and contributors to the shows that advocate overwrought behavior would have thought about their actions and would have taken more responsibility for their misdeeds. Overloading our televisions with filth seems to be the most economically sound decision for the executives who look not upon these new sitcoms and soap operas as quality programs, but as ratings and monetary gain. The media has brought upon our lives great advances and understanding, but it has also put a curse upon our chosen economical foundation of capitalism. Proof that pure capitalism will not survive is well evident in these truths. My life has been altered for both the good and bad by the media. Good in that I am knowledgeable of my surroundings and I am able to understand humanity in such ways that would be impossible without the television, the radio, and books. Bad in that I have been exposed to numerous acts of horror that have desensitized me. Displays of murder, adultery, and lies have ultimately changed my life for the worse. I believe that I have been able to keep my head on straight and will always have the power to turn the damn TV off when it ceases to enrich my life.
