The National Day of Mourning for workers killed and injured on the job, is observed on April 28, of each year. The day was recognized in 1991 by the federal and provincial legislature and since then by most municipal governments as a day dedicated to remember those who have been killed or suffer injury from workplace causes and to rededicate our efforts to prevention of occupational illness, injury and death.

Local labour councils and health & safety activists organize the observance in many communitys throughout Canada. The Kingston and District Labour Council has sponsored local observances in Kingston since 1990.

This observance is held each year at the Steelworkers Hall, 206 Concession Street
