President’s Report,

Greetings,

It has been a busy month indeed and lots of activity around the labour council. There is a wave of activism running through the community as we prepare for a busy spring. The Free trade Of The Americas FTAA in Quebec City in April has the activists and our community partners involved in planning sessions and strategies. We co-produced a leaflet for the community with the Queens Anti-Globalization Coalition, which had a distribution of thousands. A rally at city hall on March 28th at 4:30 where we are co-sponsoring with The Polaris Institute Murray Dobbin, author of the Myth of the Good Corporate Citizen and progressive columnist in the National Post. Bring an anti-corporate globalization sign, fence provided!

Our Labour's Voice in The Community cable TV welcomes Agustin Reyes, Colombian peasant leader from the Tocaima Peace Community, in Cundinmarca, Colombia. Augustin is part of a 5 member group of The Invisibles Peoples Tour will speak at the start of the council meeting. I will be the guest on the second show to talk about the Day of Mourning and the upcoming planning for the FTAA in Quebec City, and outer current council issues.

The Injured Workers Group sponsored an International Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) Awareness Day, which included speaker's forum and public education displays and handouts about RSI which including a special section for ergonomic solutions for children. We thank the work and time of Linda Wood, Ken Wynne, and Kevin Goodfellow who brought expert speakers in to educate our community.

The Day of Mourning committee of Oliver Doyle, Cecilia Brooks, Linda Woods, Bonnie Smith, and Arlie Redmond are well on their way to plan for this day and the poster contest material has been distributed to the local schools.

We welcome to tonight's meeting several new delegates. We will also be filling all committee tonight so please consider standing when nominated to committees to fulfill the work of the council.

As always,
In solidarity,

Peter J. Boyle
