LABOUR LAW CAMPAIGN IN KINGSTON
News Conference and Events Advisory
(TORONTO) -
Ontario Federation of Labour president Wayne Samuelson, and Kingston & District Labour Council president Peter Boyle will hold a news conference at 10:00 a.m.,Tuesday, November 7 at the Holiday Inn (Chart Room), 1 Princess St.
Boyle and Samuelson will address the Ontario government's proposed changes to labour laws, and the labour movement's plans to fight those changes. Kingston is one of the 11 towns and cities in which the OFL and activists will have met and held events by the end of this week to plan how to give people a real say in likely changes to labour law.
The government's changes would allow employers to make people work 60-hour weeks, take vacation a day at a time, and work longer for less money because of changes to overtime rules. The government is also being advised by its own hand-picked Red Tape Commission to do away with the Rand formula, in an effort to weaken unions' ability to stand up to employers on behalf of workers.
