Membership
Note: all existing memberships will terminate (peacefully) on May Day, 2004, the 25th anniversary of MLL's founding (1978) plus One Year. In special cases existing members with a high level of activism will be rewarded by a New Membership upon asking. However, no one will be granted membership and all attendant privileges without submitting a request.
Some FAQs
What does one get for Membership? Newsletter (Tactics), sample/master copies of all printed matter especially pamphlets, books, brochures and refutations; membership card (last batch were printed in 1978; current version is printed in 2004 and will renumber from MLL000 according to first come, first served). No non-members may participate in the MLL Cadre eList. Only members may make motions or vote at our Conventions or "Instead of a Convention"s. (The upcoming Instead of a Con will be held concurrently [evenings] with the Freedom Fest in Las Vegas, May 13-15.).
What does it cost? Membership is one-fourth Troy ounce of gold which we arbitrarily convert to US$100, Canada $125, UK£60, Euro100, etc. eMail us at mllweb@yahoo.com for on-the-spot conversions.
How long does a membership last? The last one lasted up to 26 years (for the earliest members); the current one will be good for at least a decade.
What about membership in local cells/chapters? Local cells are always free to set their own membership requirements; they cannot impose theirs rules on the Central Office and vice versa. Normally, an MLL Membership will get you into a local cell with little or no extra payment or other duties. Student Chapters are, in general, even more open than activist cells.
What about getting a rare copy of the New Libertarian Manifesto? NLM, and the sequels Strategy of the New Libertarian Alliance (1 & 2) came automatically with Old Membership. It is assumed that New Members have already read them so they are no longer included in membership. A (very) few print copies remain; they may be ordered by mail. All of them should be available as PDFs on-line within the year.
