Freedom Book

DEDICATED TO THE PUERTO RICAN MEN AND WOMEN
POLITICAL PRISONERS

Your words, thoughts, love, and experience can be a powerful tool for freedom!

ProLIBERTAD, the amnesty campaign to free the Puerto Rican political prisoners and prisoners of war, is making a call to all poets, writers, and visual artists to support the Freedom Book by submitting their work in support of the fifteen women and men imprisoned for 15-18 years for their political activities seeking Puerto Rican independence.

Spread the word! Bring your creativity, your work, your ideas, and help make the Freedom book a reality for all of us!

All proceeds from this project will go to support the amnesty Campaign for the Puerto Rican Political Prisoners and POWs. This includes material support for these imprisoned patriots, publication and promotion consts, and the general amnesty campaign.

This extraordinary literary work in the tradition of powerful political and philosophical anthologies will help bring about the awareness and consciousness regarding these men and women imprisoned in the United States jails for their activities in support of Puerto Rican independence.  It is important that it comes out this year as it is the centennial of Puerto Rican colonialism.

These 15 men and women are serving disproportionately lengthy senteces with no hope for parole even though they had no prior convictions. Because the governement could not connect them with any events, they charged them with broad seditious conspiracy charges of trying to overthrouw the US govtvernment. The Puerto Rican political prisoners in reality are conscientious activists for freedom and justice, punished by the U.S. which does not want its authority over Puerto Rico
questioned.

This book is an important vehicle to bring about awareness concerning the Puerto Rican Political Prisoners and it comes at a crucial point in the history of Puerto rican colonialism. As we mark the one hundred years of colonialism in 1998, the book will serve to highlight the status of Puerto Rico.

Currently the Young bill in Congress calls for a plebescite to decide the status of Puerto Rico.  It is the position of Prolibertad that political status cannot be discussed without the release of the Puerto Rican Political Prisoners (as per the United Nations Decolonialization Committee and as per United Nations law). The process of decolonialization demands the release of Puerto Rican Political Prisoners, the end of military occupation, the development of a transitional economic plan, and reparations!

We are inviting you to make a submission to this historical book dedicated to the Puerto Rican men and women Political Prisoners. Your words and art are powerful tools for freedom.

What is most needed:

"While there exist challenges, there is life, and as a consequence,
we can be creative even in the urns of hell!"
  . . . Oscar Lopez Rivera.

Please help with the freedom book so that Oscar and the other freedom fighters can be released from the 'urns of hell' and can continue to be a creative part of the freedom struggle outside the bars of prisons across the USA.
