Chelsea 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Wednesday on Saturday

First of all, a suggestion to the small section of the crowd who booed the players off the pitch: why don't you fuck off and watch Rottenham ? You'll be able to slag off the team all you like, with the double added bonus that it'll be justified, plus everybody else will hate you instead of just me.

Perhaps these halfwits thought they didn't get their money's worth on Saturday ? Maybe they took a wrong turning and ended up at Chelsea by accident ? Or could it be that they know FUCK ALL about football ? Enough said..

The match started with Wednesday nearly scoring from the kickoff, which woke us all up a bit. They put Chelsea under a fair bit of pressure for the first 10 minutes or so, and looked confident, but Chelsea finally got their act together and started to push the ball around themselves. Franco Zola popped up to score yet again after a goalmouth scramble ended with the ball falling nicely for him to nod past the keeper.

I'd been amazed that Chelsea appeared to have been using him as a target man, with long balls pumped high into the area that appeared to be deliberately aimed at him rather than Flo, who had a poor game, but I had to laugh when Franco scored with his head..

We were well set for what we thought would be an easy victory, but Des Walker and Pavel Srnicek had evidently decided otherwise. They both played out of their skins to deny us another goal before half time, with Srnicek in particular producing a string of saves that had the whole crowd applauding. I thought Wednesday looked a good side, one of the better we've faced at the Bridge this season, in fact.

The second half kicked off with Chelsea keeping up the pressure for the first 15 minutes or so, after which they appeared to slacken off a bit, letting Wednesday back into the game. It was obvious that one goal wouldn't be enough, and sure enough Wednesday got an equaliser on the break. Good approach work resulted in a cross from the right hand side that found Booth slipping between Ferrer and De Goey to toe poke the ball home. You could blame Desailly for allowing the cross, or Ferrer for not stopping Booth getting to the ball, but I think it was a well-taken goal that would have been let in by most teams.

You couldn't blame Wednesday for shutting up shop after that, and they did just that, keeping 11 men behind the ball most of the time. Chelsea's passing game requires room for players to run off the ball, and they weren't getting it. Add to that the fact that Flo, Ferrer and Di Matteo were having an off day and you can understand why we failed to score again, particularly with the superb defending from Walker, Thorne and Srnicek.

Even after Morris came on for the disappointing Di Matteo, and Petrescu for Goldbaek, Chelsea still couldn't break down Wednesday's well-organised defence. This was no reflection on Chelsea's lack of guts or effort, but more a sign that Wednesday are no pushovers, and when you consider that they've beaten both Man Ure and Bumnal recently, it should be no real surprise.

Which is why I have only contempt for the ignorant little twats who though it was a good idea to boo the boys off at the end. Short of giving blood there was nothing else the boys could have done to influence the outcome of the game, it's as simple as that. Nineteen games without defeat. What more do you WANT ????
