NICK'S RANT OF THE WEEK

Hey guys, sorry this rant is a little more than a week in coming.

I, for one, liked the Clash of Champions, with the Rey-Dean match being the best of the night, aside from the ending. The Three Way was good, but kind of a lousy way to get Patrick over as the heel ref. I don't like Harlem Heat as champs, and what can be said about Sherri and Parker that hasn't already. The main event was a set-up for the PPV, as most Clashes are.

As far as Patrick as a heel ref, I'm gonna develop a wait-and-see opinion as of right now, although IMHO, I don't think that Patrick has the same flair and charisma Danny Davis had when he did it. Heck, I'd much rather see famous Lucha ref El Tirante as their ref, but that's just wishful thinking. Also, if the NWO doesn't reveal the 4th man soon, they're risking turning the angle stale. I know what you'll say about anticipation, but remember; How long have we seen the Glacier ads?

After seeing some of and hearing about the ECW/IWA Japan cards, I must say I'm thoroughly unimpressed with IWA Japan. It's hard to believe this is the same promotion who did the King Of The Death Match last year. Actually, I think the other death match fed, FMW, is also going downhill. Zach's gonna hurt me for this:) but if it wasn't for Hayabusa, Ricky Fuji, (yet again I find a way to mention him:)) Megumi Kudo and Bad Nurse Nakamura, I wouldn't watch them at all. Give me NJ or Michinoku Pro any day.

I, along with Zach, feel badly about Mr. Pogo's injury. Though, and I don't want to seem callous, but I feel a lot more sorry for Jushin Liger and the Great Sasuke, who actually suffered injuries due to medical problems, and not in an act of bloodlust and/or stupidity. Actually, I'm surprised it's taken this long for a death match wrestler to be so seriously hurt. Maybe Terry Funk attacking him was a shoot (though I doubt it); like Pogo has never done anything stupid and dangerous and not planned. Am I saying end death matches? No, not at all. What I am saying is that everyone who wretles is a real person, who feels real pain.

Again, I'll close out this week's column out with a few random things...I'm tired of people (especially the Feminazi reporter over at TBR, who shall remain nameless) who are complaining about the Bikini Beach Blast-off at the Summerslam Free-for-all. First off, wrstling is just like everything else; if you don't like it, shut it off. Second, Vince is only marketing to a lot of his fan base, the same people who buy the Sunny screen saver CD. My only complaint about the bikini contest, well, not a complaint, but a question, is why they would use it as a lead-in. If they actually put it on the PPV, they'd probably get more buys...Monday is the start of Zach's Unofficial FMW page. E-mail him at doink@northcoast.com for the URL...For Summerslam itself, I don't see any surprises, except a gut feeling I have about the New Rockers winning the tag straps (maybe just wishful thinking)...I checked out Mark Madden's hotline report at the WCW homepage Friday, and it reminded me why I never liked the guy in the first place. This guy wants to be a worker so bad, and also loves to kiss Flair's ass. He's nothing but a wannabe. Then he rips Diamond Dallas Page! Hey, Dallas isn't my favorite, but he's a solid worker, and this anal wart Madden blasts him for being able to curry favor with WCW management. All I have to say to that is; Pot. Kettle. Black....I'll close this week out with my movie recommendation for this week; Broken Arrow on PPV. It's a good action picture; it wasn't worth $7.75 at the movies, but it's worth my $4 on PPV.
