This page will be a index to the bike tours I have taken in the past decade. I will attempt to describe the routes from a diary I kept and as best I can remember. Accomodations were usually in Youth Hostels. Prices quoted were for a single bed, dormitory style accomodations with breakfast. Rail travel was using a First Class Rail Pass which does NOT include the bike. During the past few years bike shipment by rail has increased substantially and many of the trains no longer carry bikes. This information will be updated sometime in late summer 1997, when I return from yet another tour.

Although some of the routes appear to be geared to the experienced rider, this need not to worry you. My bicyling did not commence until 1987 when I was 56 years old, 20+kg overweight, two-pack-a-day smoker and in general, grossly out of shape. Training consisted of riding the bike to work (8km) daily with an occasional weekend ride from Ventura, CA to Carpenteria CA. and back (40km)

The bicyle is a German made Kettler "Street", purchased in 1987 for DM1450 ($900).
