Change of seasons
After back-to-back 4-12 seasons, the Chicago Bears have fired coach Dave Wannstedt. Bears president and chief executive officer Michael McCaskey announced the firing of Wannstedt at a morning news conference. "Everything comes down to the bottom line and we haven't won," said McCaskey. Wannstedt led the Bears to just one playoff appearance in six years as coach. He compiled a record of 40-56 (.417). "Obviously, this is a very disappointing day for me and my family," Wannstedt said. "I do respect his decision for making what he feels is the best decision for the organization." Mark Hatley, the team's vice president of player personnel, will conduct a search to replace Wannstedt. "We're going to try to get the best head coach to come in and get us to a Super Bowl," Hatley said. "We're going to get the best possible candidate."
