Poems about... the GAS!

NO MATTER WHAT

No matter what they tell us
No matter what they do
No matter if they book us
What we believe is true

No matter what they call us
However they attack
No matter if they hate us
We'll fight our own way back

I can't deny what I can see
I can't be what I'm not
I know the Gas aren't dirty
I know, no matter what

If only referees were better
If only they'd let us play
If only prayers were answered
Then we would hear God say

No matter who is sent off
No matter if it's two
No matter what refs tell you
What you believe is true

And we will keep you safe from scorn
And sheltered from the storm
No matter if away we're barren
A dream is being born

No matter who they follow
No matter where they lead
No matter how they judge us
We'll give every cheer you need

No matter if the sun don't shine
Or if the skies are blue
No matter what the ending
Gasheads'll be there for you

I can't deny what I believe
I can't be what I'm not
I know the Gas aren't dirty
That's all that matters now
I know no matter what

No matter what ( no, no matter, no )
No, no matter
That's all that matters to me.

THE MUMMY
This is one of my Mum's, which includes some of her favourite players of the past.

GAS FEVER

I must go down to the Gas again, to the West Stand and the sky
And all I ask is a straight pass and a crowd to cheer and cry
And a firm kick and a tackle strong and Hayfield always playing
And a grey look on City's face and Marcus Stewart staying.

I must go down to the Gas again, for the call of the long-ball game
Is a useless call and a clear call that we'll never win again
And all I ask is the ball on the ground, played to feet instead of to head
from Pritch to Skins, from Skins to Beads and now we're in the lead

I must go down to the Gas again, to hear "Goodnight Irene"
No other club has a song like us, that puts fear in the other team
And all I ask is a quartered shirt to bring back our pride and success
We were champions last time we wore them,
Should we settle for anything less?

This is one my Dad wrote in the 1996/97 season where things were all going a bit crap and we had those bloody awful 'Tesco bag' shirts!
