DOUBLES BETTING
STRATEGIES FOR DOUBLES WAGERING
You may find betting doubles a good method to employ in your wagering.
The dividend of the Running Double will be off course be approximately the Odds of the 2 winners multiplied.
Running doubles become a very profitable investment when roughies salute. If you manage to get up a runner at good odds in the first leg it opens the way for all sorts of aggressive or defensive bets to be placed in the 2nd. leg of the double.
Below is an example of how I would wager both aggressively and defensively, depending upon the circumstances of the time.
Let's look at a Double:
LEG 1
Selection Odds Available
A $4.00
B $9.00
C $5.50
D $11.00LEG 2
Selection Odds Available
A $21.00
B $7.00
C $21.00
D $4.50
E $11.00Now if we take the Top 3 rated horses in each leg for say a dollar, we have 9 possible results (cost $9) if we we have the winner of each race in our selections.
Now as it turned out Horse "A" won the 1st. Leg at the short Odds of $4.00 so I had my 3 horses in the 2nd. Leg running for the approx. the following amounts:
A into A 3 X 20 $60.00
A into B 3 X 6 $18.00
A into C 3 X 20 $60.00Let's look at the ways I could play this Double.
1) BE DEFENSIVE
Now I could sit back and just let the Double run, but considering I have only outlayed $9.00 then I could be defensive, while the dividends are healthy they are not massive and it is important to keep your Dollar working for you.As the Ratings usually pick the winner of 80% of races in the top few, let's look at the other 2 horses in the 2nd. Leg that were rated for the race. Horse D at $4.50, and Horse E at $11.00.
If I back these 2 Horses as savers, $3.00 on horse D to win my $9 back and let's say $1 on Horse E, then I will have 5 horses running for me, my total outlay 9+3+1 = $13.00. and 3 of the Horses I rated will return a profit the other 2 get me my money back.
2) BE AGGRESSIVE
In this situation I look at the approximate dividends and save on the worst result.
So that would be A into B. = $18.00.
I have already outlayed $9.00 so that means I can outlay $9.00 on the other 2 rated horses. I put $6.50 on Horse D at 7/2 = collect of $29 and $2.50 on horse E for a collect of $27.50. So for my outlay of $18.00 now 4 of the 5 runners will yield me a profit.THE RESULT
Well in this case Horse D won the 2nd. Leg. Now if I had just let my Double run I would have lost my money.By being defensive I have got my money back.
By being aggressive I win $12.00 approximately.PLAYING THE ROUGHIE
I will now show what I would do if the winner of my 1st. Leg is a roughie. Look at a 2nd. result scenario. Let's assume that the winner of my first leg was say 20/1 then our 3 results would be:1st. Leg into A = 20 X 20 = $400 approximately.
1st. Leg into B = 20 X 6 = $120 approximately.
1st. Leg into C = 20 X 20 = $400 approximately.All this for a $9.00 outlay. So here I could save on the worst result and back the others with $120 - $9 = $111.00.
So I am going for the KILL!Why? because I have value in the 1st. Leg and to ever make it as a punter you must take advantage of VALUE.
I am 1/2 way home with an 80% chance of having the winner in my ratings in the 2nd. Leg. In this case I can back Horse D and Horse E to win Approximately $300.00.
Say $80.00 on Horse D, and then $30.00 on Horse E.
Now because the winner of the 1st. Leg was a roughie, I have some very good results going for me.
4 out of 5 Horses will produce a good win dividend.
1 of the 5 Horses will get my money back. The 3rd Scenario is of course is the unexpected happens and a runner I did not calculate on wins and I lose my wager, but with this method of a few runners running for you, a continued bank threatening series of losses in a row is rare.
