In a night of high drama Woolston edged out Rangers in a quarterfinal clash on Wednesday the 15th in the English Cup.
Woolston scored early in the match through Steve McCabe to hold the advantage but Ranger's quick healed front runner were always the advantage for the Woolston defence. Young Brazilian Antonio Goncalves levelled for Rangers before the half time break.
Nathan Knox scored straight after the resumption to give Woolston the lead again and Steve McCabe scored his second and it looked as if Woolston would comfortably take the match.
Rangers stepped up a gear and with persistent runs at and through the Woolston back four equalised with two goals to Jason Stapley.
The second of these awarded goals was hotly disputed by the Woolston team as it appeared to hit the side netting before somehow finishing up in the back of the neck
As the match went into extra time both teams had their chances and it was Steve McCabe again in the second period of additional time who separated the sides with his third goal to kill off Ranger's chance.
Late in the match Rangers were reduced to nine players as two players were carried from the field with injuries and taken off to hospital.
