Chch United sole unbeaten side

Christchurch United is the only unbeaten team in the Federation Six regional soccer league after a 2-1 win over Halswell.

Halswell went ahead through a Bryn Quilter goal at Halswell Domain on Saturday.

But Steve Hill replied for United before half time and Brent Archer got the winner in the second half.

Western and Rangers moved into joint second place after contrasting wins.

Two goals from Eugene Archer set up Western's 4-0 victory over Nomads United.

Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Universities at half time, but went on to win 4-2, with both Jason Stapley and Shem Banbury scoring twice. Avon picked up its second win, beating New Brighton 1-0.

Christchurch City had a win and a loss in its away double-header. New Zealand under-17 international Brent Fisher scored a hat-trick and Dean Gardner netted twice in City's 9-3 win over previously unbeaten Marlborough United at Blenheim on Saturday.

But City lost 1-0 yesterday to Nelson Suburbs reserves. Steve Humphreys headed home a Mark Dirou corner mid-way through the second half.

Nelson goalkeeper Steve Pike tipped away a searing shot from Ben Hughes and then saved James Solotti's penalty.
