Halswell United and Rangers, the only unbeaten teams in the Federation Six premier soccer league, have battled out a scoreless draw.
The teams met at Halswell Domain yesterday afternoon, and sound defence by Rangers kept the form Halswell strikers, Keith Grosvenor and Matt Smith, at bay.
Halswell still leads the league by three points, but Rangers has a game in hand.
In other matches yesterday, Christchurch United scored a goal in each half to beat Mid-Canterbury United, 2-0, at QEII No. 2. Michael Worsfold scored the first goal after 31min and Luke James the second, and his first for United after transferring from Christchurch City, after 52min.
Western had too much speed and skill for New Brighton winning 3-0 at Walter Park.
Danny Hill scored first after 21min and second-half goals were added by Gareth Turnbull and Craig McAlister.
In Bluebird Chatham Cup preliminary round matches yesterday Nelson United beat Blenheim Valley, 5-1.
Darren Cunningham scored four goals for Nelson.
At Barnett Park in Christchurch, Kaiapoi Town beat Ferrymead Bays, 2-1.
