The year was another strong, steady year for the Club, with mixed results on the field and a sound result financially.
However there are many challenges ahead with the costs of maintaining our own ground and clubrooms continuing to rise. This independence is a strength of the Club, but a costly one.
The proposed amalgamation with Linfield Sports has almost stalled with the development at Linfield Park in the hands of the Council. It may well be time to look at other options.
Once again the Club ran on the sterling efforts of a few. My thanks go to the following:
BRENT WILSON - Secretary. Brent's first year out of the Junior ranks. As well as continuing with his involvement with the Juniors, Brent brought enthusiasm onto the Committee, and his efforts in fundraising deserve special mention.
FRANK KLOMP - Treasurer. For another year of professional accounting services. We are fortunate to have finance under such capable control.
LEE HAWKEY - again has covered lots of areas, including Women's divisions, Gear and Gardens.
GED KILLICK - for his second year as Club Captain.
ED HEALD - and his team of grounds men for looking after the park. We will enter the 2003 season with the pitch in top shape.
ALAN SMYTHE - for administrative and final wash up of the poker machines.
KEN HAYMES - all things general, raffles and raising the flag.
PHIL CLAYTON - for the best soccer web page in town.
RIC & RETA FITZPATRICK - for another year of excellent support in looking after the Bar, Shop, Housie and the 5-aside-Tournament
JUNIOR COMMITTEE - Terry, Brent, Jackie and the rest of the Committee for maintaining Rangers as a strong junior club with high levels of provincial and national representation.
COLIN CURRY - ably assisted by Dave Hounsell, once again looking after the First Team squad. While our results were slightly short on what was expected, we are still regarded as the standard by which other clubs measure themselves by, and the Club which many aspire to play for.
Rangers had a strong representation in the Canterbury United team, with Jordan Buchanan, Chris Peck, Deane Hutchinson, Russell Kamo and Jacobo Egues having strong seasons.
OBITUARIES
We lost two Life Members during the year.
JACK GRANT - Jack's involvement had reduced over his later years but some of us have strong memories of Jack driving the team bus to Dunedin, and the hours of tractor duties in the formation of Eric Adam Park.
KEN PASH - Ken was one of those corner stones that clubs such as ours rely on. His involvement was always there, latterly as trustee and auditor. Ken was a role model for many of us.
A special thanks also goes to the Managers/Coaches of the respective teams.
