Chairman's Report 2003

It is my pleasure to present the 93rd Annual Report for Rangers.

The 2003 season was another strong, steady year for the club, highlighted by the First Team reaching the Quarter-Finals of the Chatham Cup.

FIRST TEAM - MAINLAND PREMIER LEAGUE
Despite having our strongest squad for some time, our third place in the League was a disappointment. This was overshadowed by an excellent run in the Chatham Cup, losing in the quarter-final to the eventual winners, with one of the cruellest goals witnessed at Eric Adam Park.

"Top club team in the South Island" was one of the newspaper headlines, and that reinforced the depth of the squad. Thanks to coach Colin Curry and Manager Dave Hounsell.

We again had a strong representation in the Canterbury United squad:

Jordan Buchanan Chris Peck
Alan Stroud Jacabo Egues
Dean Hutchinson Andrew Ellis
Michael Lilley Nathan Knox

RESERVE TEAM - CANTERBURY RESERVE LEAGUE
The depth of our first team squad was evident with the strong showing of the Reserve Team. Coached by Colin Curry and Tony Wilson, and managed by Craig Weavers, they finished second in their league, on goal difference.

MENS DIVISION II - (SNOW'S TEAM)
Another strong year for this team, winning their league but taking an unexpected early exit in the knockout.
Time for them to step up to Club duties.

MENS DIVISION IV
Finished seventh in their league, and need to step up in terms of getting more involved in the club.

PRESIDENTS - DIVISION C
Both Presidents Bee and Presidents Dips played in this division, finishing mid-table. Fair to say that if their level of football matched their aftermatch speakers they would have finished higher.

MASTERS WHITE - MASTERS COMPETITIVE LEAGUE
Ably managed by John Robson, they were our most successful team, doing the double. Despite the youth of their competitors, they seem to get better and better. They finished the season with a credible showing in the South Island Masters Games.

MASTERS PURPLE (SPIKES) - SOCIAL LEAGUE
A strong showing, finishing 5th out of 16 teams. With a bit of luck, they could have won it. Again, this team forms the backbone of the club.

WOMENS TEAMS
Division I

A big improvement on last year, although a shortage of games did not help. Coached by Piri Pahi.

Division II
Finished mid-table.

There are a number of key people that deserve special mention and thanks:

Grant Chellew
Chairman
