First time the tournament was held.  It was also the first pre-season tournament held in Canterbury.  It was from an original idea by Mike Shardlow, a Committeeman at that time, and organised by Eric Adam.  There was no sponsor and Rangers put up the prize money and took all the profits.  The prize money was twenty pounds for the winner, five pounds for second, two pound ten third place.  The tournament was on a knock-out basis and the top eight teams in Canterbury took part.  It was played over three Thursday nights in March (and one in April), two games each night.
