One of the biggest problems I had was getting the right amount of fuel.

Too much and it won't fire. It needs oxygen. Three to five seconds is best.

This is probably your problem if you get a spark and the potato has a good seal.

The ignitor is still good if you hear a nice loud click if you don't it is probably bad
