To commemorate Malaysia's 43 years of independence, Mother Hash _the oldest hash chapter in the world (founded in 1938)--celebrated the occasion with a run at Ulu Yam Baru on Aug 28.

Every year without fail, Mother Hash members celebrate this day of national pride with patriotism and feelings of muhibbah.

This year, about 100 members and their guests took part in an hour and-a-half run at Ulu Yam Baru.

The 15-kilometre run was set by a muhibbah team consisting of eight hares representing the country's various ethnic groups--Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sikh and expatriates.

The hares included Chris Tan, Chee Tiam Hee, Charlie Chandran, Pola Singh, Rob Stott and Mike Sweeting.

The symbol of Merdeka, the Malaysian flag, flew high at the run site. The run saw Malaysians of all races mingling with one another without reservation to celebrate the joyous occasion.

For the first time in Mother's Hash history, a specially designed Baju Melayu was distributed to all runners. After the run, the runners enjoyed a spread of authentic Malaysian food.
