A Super Effort
Scoop Pola Singh reports on the Mother Hash visit to the Celebration run
National Event
Shah Alam HHH celebrated their 333th Run in 1995 and
their 555th Run in 1998 and both events were confined to hashers in the
Klang Valley. But the 12th Anniversary Run (called the Real Millennium
Run) was made a national event with the participation of ‘batangs’
from all over the country. About 300 hashers turned out for this event
despite the distraction of the Penang HHH Celebration Run held at the same
time.
Teamwork
It is to Shah Alam HHH’s credit that they have a strong
and committed team to work with. GM, Glen “Mike Tyson” George Kennet, On-Sec,
BMW Mani and On-Cash Thiru J were the prime movers in planning and execution
of this Celebration Run. Of course the other 32 members such as Satkuru,
Siva and Jaswant also played key roles in going all out to make this event
a memorable one. Never have I seen such an enthusiastic bunch of guys go
about their business with minimum fuss. For instance when the registration
line grew long, another one was opened particularly to cater for the 40-odd
Mother Hash members led by Uncle Looi.
Hard work paid off
All the hard work put in indeed paid off as Shah Alam’s 12th Anniversary Run was not only a great success but it set a standard so high that other Batang Chapters in the country would find it difficult to emulate. It was obvious that these guys knew what exactly they were doing and what batang hashers generally want at Celebration Runs.
Perfect Run
The run around the periphery of Subang Estate was perfect. It was just the right length with enough ‘ups and downs’ and jungle to make everybody happy. The hares were led by guest Freddy Santapillai and Macdoc (Dr Syed Sultan). First runner in was Charlie Chandran and Cho who clocked 1:15.
Festivities
The bag of goodies included a black T-shirt (good design), a souvenir programme, two bottle openers, coasters, coupons for free root-beers, cigarette lighter etc. The hot and spicy Indian food was simply delicious; the tosai cooked fresh on the spot was definitely a very ‘hot’ item. There was ample food to go around.
The bottled beer lasted until the last cow came home.
The On Downs and entertainment (show time) was what hashers had expected.
With good fellowship and camaraderie, it was indeed a great evening.
Truly it was a fantastic do and all FOC. To think
that we hashers did not have to pocket out a single sen from our pockets
for the great evening makes us wonder how much the individual members had
to fork out. (I understand that the expenditure for the event was estimated
to be around 20k). Thank you Shah Alam for maintaining the tradition of
not charging hashers at Batang Celebration Runs
Verdict
Hashing today makes heavy demands on one’s time, energy and effort particularly when it comes to organising a big event such as this 12th Anniversary Run. Fortunately Shah Alam HHH can boasts of a dedicated, committed and hard-working team with good leadership provided by Glenn, Mani and Thiru. There is no question about the success of the SH HHH’s Celebration Run which was well planned and executed. The bottom line is that everyone had a good time and that is what really counts.
Congratulations Shah Alam for a job well done. We
look forward to your next celebration run (hope it will be soon). Syabas
and
Terima Kasih. On On.
